SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASED
![]() SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED, which opened March 26, is a whole lot better than the last Scooby-Doo movie. For one thing, it's funnier ... enough to keep the adults in the audience laughing. Yet there's enough light-humor and monsters to thrill the kiddies.Adult might be surprised at what a great time they have with the kids' at this one. They will also be able to enjoy some of the jokes that go by so fast that the little ones will miss them entirely. Most of the movie is as "family traditional" as it gets. The Mystery, Inc. team, (Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo ) battle the monster ghosts. There are also little messages in the movie, such as when Velma tries feels stupids in a tight, red leather pantsuit while trying to impress her date. Lesson learned? It's always best to just be yourself. The Mystery Inc. team are local heroes in Coolsville, but as the city is rolling out the red carpet to honor them, a ghoulish pterodactyl disrupts the event and turns the citizens of Coolsville against their favorite teenage sleuths. Then more monsters show up. Someone is stealing the costumes used by the gangs old human adversaries and breathing life into them with a ghost-making machine. There are great messages here, which include overcoming pride, resisting the temptation to trade on beauty, and dealing with a fear of relational intimacy. And when Shaggy and Scooby lie to their friends, Fred scolds them for being deceptive.
